Inside one of the world's most crowded slums: Korogocho (A heartbreaking experience)
DANGER ZONE - Documentary Series
KENYA - Korogocho
Korogocho, one of Nairobi’s largest slums, stands in the shadow of Dandora, East Africa’s biggest landfill. Every day, hundreds of children and adults scavenge through mountains of waste, searching for anything they can resell—scrap metal, plastic, or even discarded food. For many, this is the only way to survive. Unable to afford fresh food, some residents are forced to eat rotten leftovers salvaged from dumpsites and market waste.
This documentary provides an unfiltered look into life inside the slums of Nairobi, capturing the daily struggles and the unwavering determination of its people. The few schools available are severely overcrowded, leaving many children without access to proper education. With little hope for a better future, many young people fall into alcohol and drug addiction, sniffing glue or consuming cheap, dangerous brews. Meanwhile, healthcare is practically non-existent—hospitals are too far, too expensive, or simply beyond reach for most residents.
We explore the impact of unemployment, the informal economy, and the lack of government support, while also highlighting the strength and resourcefulness of those who call Korogocho home. This film exposes the harsh realities of slum life in Kenya, while giving voice to the stories of resilience, hope, and the fight for dignity in one of Africa’s most challenging urban environments.
